Francisco Providência

Designer · Coimbra, 1961

He graduated in Communication Design in the faculty of Fine Arts in Oporto in 1985. He has been dedicated to educational activity, first as Design and Photography Assistant at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Oporto (1985-1986), Drawing at the Faculty of Architecture in the University of Oporto (1986-1997) and subsequently, as Guest Associate Professor of Design at the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro (1997-2004). He has his own atelier since 1985. He has been publishing several lectures about design, namely in the collection of GG “Drawing? Art” (2003), he is represented in “Traffic, critic anthology of the new Portuguese visuality” and has been participating in several collective and international design exhibitions. He was a consultant at the Portuguese Centre of Design and he is a founding member of the publisher and distributor Sátira design. He was awarded with National Design Award (1999) in the areas of Communication, Product and Environment, by the Portuguese Centre of Design.

1998 - National Design, Award: exhibition Expo’98, Lisbon; Furnishing Line for libraries Liber, Julcar; Guimarães label; 1º prize at the Exponor stands, with Paula Santos, ADETURN stand.

1999 - National Design Awards, (communication, equipment and environmental areas), CPD.
2001 – 2nd place in Polis Contest, Signposting Design, CPD.
2002 –1st place in the Contest for designing of dissemination and promotion of TNSJ; 1st place in the Contest trademark image design, for the Municipality of S. João da Madeira; 1st place in the Contest for designing promotional gifts for the Municipality of Lagos.
2004 - 1st place in the Contest for signposting design, for villages in the Algarve; 1st place in the Contest for the renewal of graphic image to IPPAR, Lisbon; 1st place in the Contest for the conception of new graphic image for Mondego Subway and Mondego Subway S.A., Coimbra; 1st place in the Contest for signposting holders for Convento de Cristo buildings, IPPAR, Tomar; 1st place in the Contest for touristic signposting in Lagos.
2005 - 1st place in the Contest for the conception of signposts in Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima.
2006 - 1st place in the Contest for signposting conception at the CCB spaces, Lisbon.
2007- 2nd place in the International Contest of urbanism and communication in the city of Montecatini Terme, Italy.
2008 - Red Dot Design Award, with a luminary column 17º form Larus.
